I don’t usually watch the miss universe pageant. Me and my 14 year old daughter were flipping channels and we caught it as soon as it started.
I noticed Zozibini Tunzi immediately. Her dark brown skin and natural short hair stood out to me so much.
My top 3 choices to win were
Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa, Cheslie Kryst from USA, and Birta Abiba Þórhallsdóttir from Iceland. These 3 brown beauties had so much grace and poise.
When the evening gown competition started, I knew Zozibini was going to win. That beautiful gown which cascaded over her brown shoulders, was beyond beautiful.
Then the final question was asked “What is the most important thing we should teach young girls today?” Zozibini answered: ” I think the most important thing we should be teaching young girls today is leadership. It’s something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time, not because we don’t want to but because of what society has labelled women to be. I think we are the most powerful beings in the world and that we should be given every opportunity and that is what we should be teaching these young girls, to take up space, nothing is as important as taking up space in society and cementing yourself, thank you.“
I feel like her win was a win for all brown women everywhere. I feel proud. How did you feel when you found out Miss South Africa won the Miss Universe title? Leave me a comment below.
